El Niño, or more precisely the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the name
given to a warm ocean current in the southern Pacific off the coast of South America
(El Niño) and changing - but connected - levels of barometric pressure in the eastern
and western Pacific (Southern Oscillation). El Niño has dramatic effects on the world's weather,
from the monsoons of India to the coasts of California.
